Hawaii, Aloha Adventure

We've all seen photos or videos of how beautiful Hawaii can be. And once you've seen the island in person you understand how pictures don't do it any justice. The hardest part is choosing which island to visit first. We chose O'ahu.

Once you arrive at the Daniel K. Inouye International Airport, you're immediately greeted with a fresh Lei around your neck. The scenic drive to the hotel is absolutely stunning! When you get to the Hilton Hawaiian Village, the unparalleled beauty does not stop. This beachfront hotel has it all. The rooms are clean, spacious, and have a nice size balcony. There is nightly entertainment as well as a pool, spa, and mini shops right on the property. You can eat oceanside at Tropics Bar & Grill or at any of the other dining options at the resort. Order the Pupu Sampler, which comes with spicy Ahi Poke, Thai chili coconut shrimp and Gochujang chicken wings. Or for something lighter, try the Seared Ahi Salad, with a wasabi-ponzu dressing.

For a day off the resort, start by heading to Eggs 'n Things for breakfast. This diner-style restaurant has an extensive menu with items that we are sure you'll only see while in Hawaii.

Since SPAM is very popular in Hawaii, you'll find it on plenty of menus and prepared in several different ways. We personally haven't had the meat in years but when in Rome... Try the SPAM & green onion omelet. It comes with your choice of rice, potatoes, or pancakes. Also comes with a side of cucumber salsa. Portions are generous; especially since their omelets are made with three eggs. You can also try the Kalua pig benedict on a taro bun or the Macadamia Nut pancakes.

Afterwards, head over to the Tropical Farms Macadamia Nut Farm. When you arrive, you'll notice that you are really in the middle of a nature the area. There is no pavement or sidewalks. Chickens roam around. You might find a coconut and even some bananas, but the main attraction are the nuts. One of the special things about the Tropical Farms Macadamia Nut Farm is that you can sample them before you buy. They have pretty good flavors like Kona Coffee Glazed nuts and of course good ole plain if you're not into that. (Also a good place to get souvenirs).

But if you're into pineapples you definitely need to check out the Dole Plantation. They have one of the world's largest mazes and also a family-friendly train ride around the plantation. You can also eat everything from Dole Soft Serve Dessert to a Pineapple Chili Dog and then wash it down with fresh pineapple juice. Pineapple overload? Yeah, they have non-pineapple items to eat as well... but please don't skip the soft serve. And please buy some pineapple gummi bears to take with you.

For the evening, make your way over to Sky Waikiki. The rooftop bar serves cocktails and light bites like fresh oysters and truffle fries. Take in the panoramic views of the island, including Diamond Head, and also enjoy live music certain nights. This place also turns into a nightclub on Fridays and Saturdays.

And you can't leave Hawaii without experiencing a luau. Although it's a tourist attraction, Paradise Cove is a good time. They provide you with dinner (including the roast pig) and a luau show that's very entertaining. Afterwards take plenty of pictures with the Hula dancers and some selfies of yourself with the beautiful -and real- mountain backdrop.
