It's Time For Taco Tuesday
Welcome to Taco Tuesday, a beloved weekly tradition whose origins are murky, but has evolved into a day for everyone to throw back shots of mezcal and order something off of the Mexican menu. This midweek fiesta has captured the hearts and appetites of foodies around the world (including ours), so here are a few of our cherished Taquerias/Restaurants for you to enjoy.
Random Fun Fact: Mole de poblano is a Cinco de Mayo tradition...not really tacos...but you can find both at Mamazul. And when you come, expect to be entertained. They have a weekly Sunday brunch party with live performances and Taco Tuesday Specials. Festivities, fajitas, and fun should all be on high volume. Try the Enmoladas. Braised pulled chicken, mole negro, pickled onions, corn tortillas with rice & beans. Coming with a group? The Parrillada Molcajete is perfect for sharing. It's served on a sizzling molcajete with pork chops, skirt steak, chorizo, shrimp, chicken, octopus, grilled corn and cactus, in a fire roasted tomato sauce. Whew, yeah we know!
With a few locations in NYC and throughout the USA, Rosa Mexicano is a go-to spot for solo dining at the bar or a lunch date with someone special. They have 50% off tacos on Tuesdays, and Tequila Thursdays, where they have specially curated tequila flights. Specialty tacos such as the Duck Carnitas, that's topped with a pineapple-jicama salsa and queso fresco, or the Ahi Tuna Tacos, are both on the menu.
El Coco, this Taqueria has three locations in the city with barbacoa and birria tacos that are frequently ordered by regulars and newbies alike. They also have the regular Mexican menu favorites such as burritos, enchiladas, and empanadas with fillings like spinach & cheese, steak, and shrimp & crab. Oh, and did we mention they have $5 margarita specials!
La Barca Cantina eat tacos and drink margaritas while you sail around the Hudson River on a boat. Order the Tony's Campechano tacos which has brisket, chorizo, and charred scallions or the 4-Cheese Quesadilla. This boat keeps the party going all summer long and also has 21+ evening dance cruises.
Siete is a vegan/vegetarian Mexican restaurant that has the same food staples plus unique meatless options that are flavorful and tasty. Vegan or not, if you've ever had oyster mushrooms, you already know how versatile and delicious it can be. It's meaty texture is perfect as a meat substitute. The Adobo Oyster Mushroom tacos have pickled red cabbage, avocado mousse, chipotle and cotija cheese. But the bar at Siete is really the winner. Sip on the La Siete, a tequila cocktail with blood orange liqueur, lime, and a Tajin rim. Or order the guava limeade mocktail for something tasty without the booze.
The Ready Rooftop, located inside the Moxy East Village, has $1 tacos and $9 margaritas from 4-6pm on weekdays (except Mondays) and 12-3pm on weekends. And yes, the rooftop is all-season.
