Sky High Meals: Airplane Food Has Elevated

If you're anything like us, the real excitement for vacation starts once you step foot in the airport. Getting your ticket, maybe a magazine and snack, or even a cocktail at the airport bar. And if you've ever flown in the premium cabins, you're already aware of all the perks you receive from riding in the front of the plane. And one of the most important: the food. While business class is obviously a big step up, the overall in-flight dining experience remains rather...blah. Let's be honest, airplane food doesn't have the best reputation, but some airlines are trying to change that.

We all know Jetblue has complimentary chips and beverages. And if you get the Mint Experience, prepare for the luxury treatment featuring solo spacious seating, spa toiletries, and Delicious Hospitality Group three-course meals. We must say, they do their thang.

Another airline with a great in-flight experience is British Airways. (And no you don't have to be traveling to the UK to fly with them). The Loch Fyne Smoked Salmon with truffled remulaude and asparagus was surprisingly very delicious. And for the main course, the Grilled Marinated King Prawns and the Braised Welsh Leg of Lamb were both top tier. Seasoned and served with sides that were equally as tasty. I could picture both dishes being served in a fancy restaurant.

American Airlines has actually partnered with the James Beard Foundation to serve quality meals on board. Along with your complimentary drinks and wine, enjoy a chef-prepared meal of Duck & Pea Ragout served with pasta and shaved parmesan. Vegetarian? Order the Cauliflower Pannacotta with gorganzola cheese and a sherry glaze.

So the next time you fly to your dream destination, save room for some airline cusine, creating a five-star restaurant atmosphere above the clouds.
