Tostones or Maduros? The Only Decision You Should Have To Make
The Dominican Republic is an island rich in vibrant culture, flavorful cuisine, and a hint of mystery that lies beyond the tourist borders. You might get mixed responses when you ask people there thoughts on the island. Here at WBFF, we've visited a few times, and each trip as brought about new experiences. The DR has seen its fair share of good times and bad; but nothing can take away from its beautiful beaches and it's continued popularity as a Caribbean tourist destination.
STAY
Stay at the Bahia Principe Luxury Ambar resort in Punta Cana if you're looking for an adult-only vacation. Each suite includes a balcony and minibar, or a swim-up pool (if you book the deluxe suite). Free wifi, direct beach access, a disco/nightclub on property, and several dining options throughout the resort, are only a short list of the all-inclusive amenities you can take advantage of here. There's nightly entertainment and endless food & drink that if you did not want to leave to resort, you don't have to. Make a reservation at Las Olas Restaurant, and enjoy Brazilian grilled meats, carved and served right at your table. Or pick your own options from the International buffet at Palmyra Main Restaurant.
Barceló Bávaro Beach Hotel
This resort is also all-inclusive. One side is designated for adults-only while the other is family-friendly. There is a bowling alley, casino, nightclub, spa, and four buffet options to choose from, as well as a la carte restaurant dining.
Both resorts are rather large. We suggest requesting a room close to the lobby if walking is not your forte. But don't worry, hotel shuttle service around the property is still an option.
PLAY
Dance the night away or vibe out to the live DJ while sitting at the bar. Whatever you choose, you can do it at Mangu Disco. This spot is popular amongst locals and tourist alike. There are two levels and a small entrance fee, so make sure to have some cash.
EAT
Since the Dominican Republic shares an island with Haiti, you get a mix of Latin & African influence throughout its culture and foods. This can be tasted in such meals at Capitan Cook. When you arrive, you can choose what seafood you want from their fresh catch. They have everything from lobster to red snapper and they will grill it right on the beach. The lobster is served whole, split down the middle, and accompanied with warm melted butter. The red snapper is seasoned and pan fried. The highlight of the meal and definitely our recommendation. We also ordered the cerviche which was fresh, light, and the peefect appetizer before the meal. This beachfront restaurant has other foods besides seafood but order at your own risk. (We did notice a neighboring table ordering the Angus Strip-Loin and they said it was good). But, again, this is a seafood spot...
Meals are served with rice & beans, salad, and tostones or maduros. Order additional sides if you like... Reservations are required. There's even a swing over the water to take pictures or just chill.
